Internet Access details:

Internet Access contains details about your Broadband connection. You may need to refer to these details when configuring your Internet connection, so it is advised that you print out this page for reference.
Please refer to our Broadband Beginners Guide for help in configuring your hardware with this information.

The details displayed (from top to bottom) are explained below:

Please refer to the Related Article for details of how to configure SmartFTP with these details.

Email and News Settings Details

The right hand section contains details used for configuring your e-mail account, and connecting to Zen's news server.

The details here are explained below:

  • Email Address : This is the default e-mail address as provided with your Zen ADSL account. We recommend not using this, and instead create your own - personalised - email address as explained here: Creating an email address
  • Email Username : This is the POP3 username for your e-mail account, and should be entered when prompted when configuring your e-mail program.
NOTE: You may experience problems if you use the username as shown in this section of Customer Portal.  You should add @zen.co.uk to the end of this username to avoid future issues.
  • Email Password : For security this is hidden. Click on the + sign to display the password. This is the password that should be used when configuring your e-mail program, and should be entered when prompted exactly as shown (password is case sensitive)

News Server Address : This is the address of Zen's news server, and should be entered where prompted when configuring your news reader application.
  • News Server Login : The News server does not require you to input any username or password when connecting. Authentication is done by checking your IP address instead.

Separate guides to configuring your e-mail and news reader programs with this information can be found in the relevant sections of the Knowledge Base.

DNS and IP Information

This information is only used for advanced setup, for example where a customer has multiple public IP addresses.  If you are using your router in NAT this information will typically not be required.

An explanation of this information is provided below:

DNS Server: Both of Zen's DNS servers are listed - 212.23.3.100 and 212.23.6.100. If prompted for DNS servers then fill in the IP addresses as listed here. However you may not need this information, as many modems and routers can pick them up automatically.  If your router is able to obtain this information automatically we recommend doing so - as the DNS server addresses may change in the future.

IP Address Information: This information displayed here will depend on the number of IP addresses you have assigned to your account. When setting up your connection you should not need any of this information, unless you are configuring a router in Routed IP mode. Help for doing this with Zen-supplied Broadband routers can be found in our Broadband Router Setup Guides.

When setting up your ADSL connection you may be prompted for the following general connection information:

  • Connection Type: PPPoA
  • VPI: 0
  • VCI: 38
  • Encapsulation: VC MUX (or VC Based)
  • Modulation: Auto/MultiMode
  • Authentication type: CHAP (May be listed as PAP or CHAP)
