Online Data Backup - Vault: Specifying Backup and Upload Times

Aim of this article

This article provides guidance on configuring the backup and upload times for backups in Zen Vault Express and Zen Vault Professional.  It also provides details of how the backup time relates to when backups are uploaded.

Specifying the Backup Time

To specify the backup time open Zen Vault then click Tools followed by Options. The options screen will open.

Click Backup Schedule.   You can now choose when you want backups to take place on a daily basis - under the heading Daily Automatic Backups - or regular days of the week of your choosing under the Advanced Schedule heading.  Each section has it's own option for Backup time.

If you are using Zen Vault Professional the backup will be uploaded to our storage servers at the time you specify.

If you are using Zen Vault Express the Sun and Moon icons indicate different behaviour for the upload of your backup, which is explained below:

The Sun icon:

The Sun icon will appear for backup times between 6am and 7pm and indicates the backup will be uploaded at the time you specify.

The Moon icon:

The Moon icon will appear between 7pm and 6am and indicates the backup will be made at the time specified; however, it will not be uploaded immediately.  Instead the Zen Vault Express software will choose a time between 7pm and 6am to upload the file.  This is done to ensure load on the backup server is distributed evenly throughout the peak upload period at night.

If you do not leave the computer you are backing up on during the night then you should arrange for backups to be made during the daytime Sun hours for immediate upload or opt for the Zen Vault Professional version.
