Web Hosting - Linux: Creating FTP accounts

Aim of this article

This article shows you how to set up additional FTP accounts on your Linux cPanel service.

Setting up a new FTP account

Log in to the cPanel Control Panel by opening a Web browser and browsing to http://myaccount.myzen.co.uk/cpanel/ or http://mydomain/cpanel/.  Next scroll to Files.

Click FTP Accounts.

Enter the following information:

  • Login* : Enter the FTP username you wish to create.
  • Password: Enter the password to be used for this FTP account.
  • Directory: This is the lowest level directory the FTP account can access.  If this is left as a single '/' then the FTP account will have full access to all the files on your Web hosting account, otherwise it will only have access to the folder you set (and any subfolders of that).
  • Quota by default the quota will be set to unlimited, this is however restricted to the available space on your cpanel account. To restrict the qouta to a given limit enter the limit in MB into the Quota box.

Once you are happy the information is correct click Create. Your new FTP account will now be created and ready to use.

*NOTE: If you enter a username of user then the actual username you should use in your FTP software settings will be user@yoursubdomain.myzen.co.uk . You can also replace this with any domain that is parked on the account, e.g. user@yourparkeddomain.com .
